Updated!! This post is out of date as we are now on the 3.0 firmware, in which case is recommended to update to it.
The new iphone firmware is out, the new app store will make most people want to upgrade, but what about those with unlocked iphones? As you know, if you update, your phone locks up again. Firmware 2.0 is not unlockable yet since it updates your baseband to .05 which is not supported yet. If you’ve tried downgrading firmware without any luck and getting error messages. This are the steps I followed to downgrade my iphone from 1.2.0 to 1.1.4 and baseband .05 to .04
Remember that this worked for me as it worked for other people, but you alone are responsible if something else messes up with your phone. Done under WinXP, 1G iphone not 3G. Tutorials are from www.iclarified.com, check them out just in case mine is impossible to follow.
Apps/files you will: iTunes 7.6 or lower,firmware 1.1.4 – www.iphone.unlock.no has a link, ziphone from ziphone.org and Kiphone (Thanks Kiremk) – http://rapidshare.com/files/119407675/_En__ZiPhone_patched_by_kIREmK_04.05.04_G.zip direct link.
Step 1 In order to update to 2.0 you had to update itunes to 7.7. First you need to uninstall itunes and restart. Rename your itunes folder in your documents/music location to whatever else you want, (You will see why).
Step 2 Install itunes 7.6 or whatever version you got. The reason we renamed the itunes folder is because the new itunes needs to create a new one so you dont get an error message about a newer version installed, also so your music stays intact.
Step 3 Restoring from 2.0 back to 1.4. -With itunes opened and the phone plugged in, turn off your phone, then you must put it in recovery mode. Holding the power and home button at the same time, for about 5 seconds, now release the power button but keep holding home button until computer recognizes your phone as DFU phone. You can now release home button, DO NOT RELEASE UNTIL RECOGNIZED!! so now the phone has a black screen, if the itunes logo came up, you have to follow these step all over again.
Step 4 In DFU mode itunes will ask you to restore, do so by holding SHIFT and clicking the restore button at the same time, if you click restore without holding shift, you will restore back to 2.0 so no good. iTunes will do its thing now, this will take a while so relax. When done, you will get an error message (1015). This is fine as itunes is just telling you it was able to restore firmware but not baseband. IF YOU GET ANY OTHER ERROR MESSAGE SOMETHING ELSE WENT WRONG SO YOU HAVE TO TRY AGAIN.
ok we are almost done now…
Step 5 Fire up ziphone, at this point we usually pick the DO IT ALL OPTION, but now its not the time. What we need to do is activate the phone only. On the right bottom side of ziphone app, you will see the CLICK TO SHOW ADVANCED OPTIONS, click that and in the INDIVIDUAL UNLOCKING OPTIONS you must UNCHECK the jailbreak and unlock boxes, so we are only activating phone at this moment (LEAVE ACTIVATE BOX CHECKED) click PERFORM ACTION, about 3 minutes or so you should have an activated phone, if you get no response from phone close app and try again, but it worked on the first try with me.
Step 6 So now you have an activated phone, at this point close ziphone and its time to fire up kiphone and here, all you have to do is check the DOWNGRADE BASEBAND and the DEBUG BOOT boxes, then press START and let kiphone do its thing, this will take about 3 minutes. if you dont get message from kiphone letting you know its done, (it didnt with me) its ok as the STOP key will be unclickable, its done. You can check your phone settings and you will see that your phone has been downgraded baseband to .03. So you re all done, almost.
Step 7 Now all you have to do is fire up ziphone again, click the DO IT ALL options and we are all done!!!
Well that took a while, hopefully it was all worth it and sorry for the long tutorial, this is what I did to get my phone back on. One last step though, remember you renamed your original itunes folder to something else so, if you want to keep itunes 7.6 then you will have to copy all your music back again to it, if you rather update back to 7.7, just update via the CHECK FOR UPDATES OPTIONS within itunes, when done close itunes and delete the itunes folder created by 7.6 and rename your original itunes folder back to just itunes and all your music will be back to normal.
Remember do this at your own risk, but it worked for me. I need to thank the people who created these tutorials and made it much easier for me and others. Please visit their sites if you can. If you can leave a comment letting other viewers know this worked for you too!!
